In July 2010 we spent a week in Yellowstone national park. We stayed at Grant Village campground. I got to know the staff at the office after a day or two and finally asked if they knew of any haunted locations in the park. I was told that we were camped at one. Yellowstone lake has several tales of ghosts that haunt the lake and many of it's islands.

I was also told about the ghosts at the Old Faithful Inn. The most common ghosts of the park. Ghost sightings are common at the Inn. There is a ghost of young boy who appears out of nowhere on the second floor. He seems to be looking for his family. A headless bride wonders the halls carrying her head under her arm. A woman was murdered there in 1914 who had recently been married and it is presumed to be her. A ghost of an older man dressed in 1920's merchant marine clothing wanders the halls checking doors to see if they are locked. He also peers in to windows from outside the Inn.

While we were visiting the Old Faithful Inn gift shop, I asked an employee about the ghosts. He had not seen any but other employees tell him about there sightings all the time. Them he showed me this book they sold there. It is called Yellowstone ghost stories by Shellie Larios. She visited the park several times in the mid 90's researching ghosts and published this book about her findings. Of course I had to have it. I found it is full of info about the haunted locations of Yellowstone and the history of the ghosts that haunt them. I think anyone who likes ghost stories will enjoy this book. And there is a good history lesson about the parks past in each story. We did not see any ghosts during our visit but we will return several more times to study these ghosts and enjoy the beauty of the park.

Some of the ghosts in the book are: Yanceys ghost, a ghost who haunts the Roosevelt corrals and surrounding area. A ghost of the owner of one of the lake's first ferry boat companies is said to haunt Stevenson Island.
